My Core muscles are weak, what exercises should I do?

Today a client who said he didn’t know how to make his core work.

Sure enough, a test for Rectus Abdominis and Transverse Abdominis was weak in the clear. Another test that I did called Perturbation showed that he was standing more on the heels of his feet so when I had him resist a push from the front, he fell right back.

I tested a few muscles against the core with no change but when I tested his core while having him contract his left Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle, his core muscles ‘turned on’ and they tested strong. After ‘Directional Testing’ confirmed the relationship, I treated the SCM then tested the core and voila!

Of course I gave him exercises to reinforce the pattern and he can look forward to life with an active core!
